Fantasy roleplay as youth work: Tales&Legends opens its safeguarding concept to other organiser teams
In Saxony, youth work is taking shape in an unusual place: live-action roleplay. At a tavern night run by the non-profit Tales&Legends gUG, getting started costs five euros, costume is lent out, and play takes place in a manor house north-east of Dresden. The first such evening, in March 2026, brought around 20 people together, many of them in character for the first time.
In August 2026 the organisation adopted and fully published a child and youth protection concept — including the templates it uses itself: enhanced background checks for everyone working with minors, fixed staffing ratios, safety tools such as the X-Card, and a written procedure for handling boundary violations. Other organiser teams are free to adopt the material without asking.
Tales&Legends was founded in June 2026 as a non-profit limited company and is entered in the commercial register at the Amtsgericht Dresden. Everyone involved works as a volunteer; any surplus goes into a free ticket fund for players who cannot afford a ticket, and into gear and storage. The organisation also acts as the non-profit legal sponsor for events run by other groups who have an idea but no legal framework.
